The Old and New Testament is replete with the theme of Jesus in his life, death and resurrection being both The Table and The Provision On The Table for those who would call on his name and be saved.
The story of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 21 simply and powerfully portrays this truth. Abraham took his long awaited, promised son to the Mount of Moriah where he built an altar to God and where in obedience he laid his son upon it and prepared to take his life. But God said... his obedience was enough and as Abraham lifted his eyes, He Saw The Ram In The Thicket, The True Provision Of The Lord.
The place was then called, "the lord will provide and in the mount of the lord it will be provided."
The Bible declares Jesus Christ to be the only true and acceptable Sacrificial Lamb. He is The Table or altar set before the world and the Provision laid upon it which is high and lifted up. He is both Chief Shepherd and the Holy Lamb.
In the natural a tableland is a plateau; a place in the mountains that is both elevated and flat. Shepherds move their sheep to Tablelands for fresh grazing. As the Shepherd in Psalm 23, they go before their sheep and make sure the way is safe and the feeding ground lush. The Table is prepared beforehand and a feast is the expectation. Nourishment abounds.
As the people of God living in a hostile world, the tablets or tables of our hearts need constant feeding and weeding and our minds fresh anointing.
God promised this to us, here in the land of the living and in the presence of our enemies through David the Psalmist.
Let us go often to The Table, on the Mountain of Our Lord, where Truth and Mercy Meet.
